The Catholic Lighthouse is the official publication of the Diocese of
Victoria in Texas. It contains news concerning activities in the diocese
plus regional, national and international news received from the Catholic
News Service, headquartered in Washington, D.C. The 12-page news-
paper is published monthly and printed the first Wednesday of each month.

 Besides at least 9 pages of local church and community events, The Catholic Lighthouse features 3 pages dedicated to specific topics of interest to the church population: Teens, Young Adults, Faith & Family, Spirituality, Social Justice, Church in the News and Entertainment.

 SUBSCRIPTION PRICE FOR CATHOLICS NOT REGISTERED IN A

PARISH, PER YEAR, IS $7/$10 outside the diocese.

Remember to send information on fund-raisers to be held at your parish as soon as you have a date and time and/or  two weeks before the above dates, so it will be well advertised in the When & Where section.   

 

Diocese of Victoria Directory Updates

 The 2011 Diocese of Victoria Directory is available for purchase from The Catholic Lighthouse office.   

 To purchase a new, complete diocesan directory with the official diocesan binder, the cost is $15 if shipped, $10 if picked up at chancery office. 

 If you have purchased a diocesan directory in the past and have the official flexible plastic, diocesan binder, you may purchase the loose-leaf contents of the directory by themselves to replace the outdated information for $5.

 To receive the 2011 Diocesan Directory, please send a check, for the appropriate amount, to The Catholic Lighthouse, 1505 E. Mesquite Lane, Victoria, TX  77901.   Remember, to save the diocese and yourself money, please pick up the directory at the chancery office at the same address.

 

The Catholic Lighthouse contents

The first eight pages include: The Bishop’s Calendar, diocesan news, Vocations’ information, Young Adults’ page, catechesis information, and “Sisterly Thoughts” by Sister Mildred Truchard.

Pages 10 and 11 feature color diocesan photos and news.

The Teens page includes the calendar of events for the youth in the diocese. Each month a national column addressed to teens and young adults is included. Local, national and international news impacting youth is also featured.

The Faith & Family section contains a religious puzzle contest, the Sunday Mass readings for the month, a column addressing the Catholic faith, and a pro-life or other religious cartoon.

On the Spirituality page, a section titled The Pope Speaks features the text from a recent audience with the pope.

Current social topics such as abortion, poverty, war and other injustices and the way the church is working to ratify them are covered in the Social Issues section.

Church in the News reports current news topics and how the Church is involved, as well as news about the Catholic Church.

The Events page includes When & Where, which features local events such as church picnics, activities, and church meetings and retreats. This section also often includes movie, television and book reviews, when space is available.
